The value of a humanities education

It seems the value of understanding what makes us human, the past that informs us, the challenges that face us, and the possibilities to influence real change in the future, is not enough ROI (‘return on investment’ for all those non-business students!) There has been a disturbing trend of students questioning the value of a humanities education, rather than embracing the phenomenal opportunity it is. It’s not only a sad comment on the values of our society but demonstrates the shallowness of generation who claim to be oh so socially aware and commited to making a difference…or is that only your facebook page?
